As I look over my copy of Rev Magazine I find myself drawn to a book recommendation. The title is "the Volunteer Revolution" by Bill Hybels, and it brings up memories of my past.
In my early church life I attended Frazer United Methodist (picture in upper left corner of this post). One of the foundational beliefs of the church was that every member should be involved in ministry. The yearly campaign was called In His Steps - Every Member in Ministry. The odd thing is that it actually worked! At that time we had an incredible staff to member ratio. Frazer was, and is, powered by congregational involvement in ministry. They now have over 8,000 members!
Imagine if we really had a Volunteer Revolution in the church today. A shift from a minister centered model to a congregational centered model. Imagine what several hundred people could accomplish verses just a few! Imagine the Spiritual Growth and Numerical Growth possibilities.
The cool part is that it can actually happen, I've seen it before, a Volunteer Revolution - and it all begins with you! Get involved today in your local church and see what Christ can do through you. There will always be a place for you to serve if you are willing - Christ is depending on it!
